How do I choose the right retreat center?Choosing the right Ayahuasca and/or San Pedro Huachuma retreat center is an important decision. You should consider factors such as the type of retreat offered, the experience of the facilitators, and the location of the retreat. Take time to see where you connect with the location and facilitator. You should also make sure that the retreat center adheres to proper safety protocols and has a good reputation among its former participants. In some of the larger retreat centers there can be 20-30 people in a maloca, which can make it more difficult to do the deep healing work. At Ayahuasca Guatemala & Alternative Healing Center (AyaCenter), our experienced facilitators provide a safe and supportive environment for our guests, and we are committed to providing an authentic and transformative experience. That said, your choice often depends on your intention for the medicine. If something inside says "this is not it," don't go. You want to feel comfortable and safe trusting someone to take you through this experience.

What makes this healing center unique?Retreats with the Ayahuasca& Alternative Healing Center (AyaCenter) have been designed to help you focus on deep healing and spiritual opening. In contrast with some retreat centers which offer single ceremonies, without being serious about the diet, we work with a minimum of two ceremonies and are very careful about the diet prior and after the retreat. We don't take big groups because we want to help people with deep healing. Before you come, we want to hear your intentions and help you clarify your goals and what we can do to help you reach them. We don't just offer Ayahuasca or San Pedro experiences... we open the doorway to a lifelong journey of healing and transformation. "I know how powerful the medicine is and that's why I take it so serious." - Sasha Check out our About page for more information about Antigua and what makes it an ideal place for the Ayahuasca healing experience.

Is it necessary / safe to vomit as part of the experience?Ayahuasca is purgative medicine, both physically and spiritually. Vomiting is a common, yet not necessary, reaction to the Ayahuasca experience. Individuals may purge through vomiting, crying, shaking, or using the toilet. The experience can be intense, but it is important to remember that it is a safe and natural process. For those who find it difficult to purge through vomiting, we practice this before the ceremony using a special tea called Vomitivo. When you come to the retreat and after your check-in, you chug a gallon of tea on an empty stomach. The faster you chug it, the faster the stomach fills up and rejects it. You throw it all up. At first you feel bad, then once you vomit, you feel so good. It's cleansing your inside, preparing you to be clean before the ceremony.

What are the risks of Ayahuasca and how can I minimize them?Ayahuasca is an ancient medicine that has been used by indigenous cultures for centuries. As with any medicine, there are risks associated with taking it. These risks include physical reactions such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and increased heart rate. Other risks include psychological reactions such as anxiety, fear, and altered states of consciousness. To minimize the risks associated with participating in an Ayahuasca ceremony, it is important to follow the guidelines set by the retreat center. This includes listening to the instructions given by the facilitator, drinking a moderate amount of ayahuasca, and avoiding any substances that may interact negatively with ayahuasca. Click here to download our guide to prepare for an Ayahuasca ceremony, which includes dietary guidelines.

Is Ayahuasca addictive?Ayahuasca is a powerful psychedelic brew made from plants native to the Amazon rainforest. It is used for spiritual and healing purposes by many indigenous peoples of South America and has been gaining popularity in recent years. There is no physical dependence associated with its use. However, the psychological effects of the medicine can be powerful and should not be taken lightly. Although it is discouraged by AA, Ayahuasca can actually help bring you out of addiction. It is not addictive itself as the experience is unpleasant and you want the discomfort to stop. There is a reason it is called medicine! Ayahuasca is not a magical pill to overcome addictions. She will provide an opportunity to reset patterns and habits while also giving you direction on what you need to do to start a new way of life. With proper diet, the effects of the medicine can linger for about a month supporting major life changes

Is there a dietary requirement? The Ayahuasca diet is an important part of the Ayahuasca experience. Following the diet helps to prepare the body and mind for the healing journey and also helps to ensure a safe and beneficial experience. The diet eliminates foods that are known to interact negatively with Ayahuasca, including processed foods, refined sugars, dairy, and red meat. It emphasizes foods that are known to support the healing process, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and plant-based proteins. Here is a link to the diet that we require all participants to follow. It is best to begin several weeks in advance. If you don't, we will know when you arrive and it may be very difficult to go through the ceremony.
